Microsoft plugs into Liquid Audio

Microsoft has bought still further into the streaming media industry with Monday's announcement of an agreement with Liquid Audio Inc. that the two companies say will further online music technology. Microsoft and Liquid Audio will work together on streaming media marketing and standards initiatives, and they will integrate Liquid Audio Server products with Microsoft Commerce Server. Liquid Audio will embrace Microsoft technologies such as NetShow Server, Advanced Streaming Format, Internet Explorer, Windows NT Server, and Microsoft Site Server.

Under the pact, Microsoft and Liquid Audio will work together on streaming media marketing and standards initiatives, and they will integrate Liquid Audio Server products with Microsoft Commerce Server. Also, Liquid Audio will embrace Microsoft technologies such as NetShow Server, Advanced Streaming Format, Internet Explorer, Windows NT Server, and Microsoft Site Server, Enterprise Edition.

Liquid Audio's technology allows consumers to preview and buy music over the Internet, and lets companies maintain copyright protection and track royalties.
