Bell South has invested in Nokia’s Intelligent Network (IN) platform.

IN will form the core of the GSM digital network by functioning as an integrating tool.

The integration of services and other technologies paves the way for Bell South to be prepared for such things as number portability, whenever that may happen, and expands the potential for using GSM as part of a personal communication services (PCS) system.

Hamish Sansom, product development manager at Bell South, says “the IN platform will give Bell South customers the ability to use their existing numbers with their GSM digital mobile, once the path to number portability is cleared by other carriers”.

“In the future, customers will be able to access services through their GSM digital mobile that were previously only available on the fixed line network.”
