China Telecom Hong Kong Group Ltd. has awarded AT&T with a contract to provide systems integration services and global Internet access to the U. S. and countries in the Asia Pacific region.
The contract will boost China Telecom (HK) Group's plan to become an Internet service provider in Hong Kong, in the first half of next year, AT&T said in a press release. China Telecom (HK) Group Ltd. is owned by China Telecom, the operating arm of China's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.
The contract is a direct result of an long term cooperation agreement signed by the companies in August 1997.
In a separate deal last month, AT&T signed a contract with China Telecom to provide China's first T45 connection, which will increase the bandwidth of ChinaNet, the country's main Internet backbone, linking China to the U.S. and the rest of the world.
