Clear chief executive returning to British Telecom

Clear CEO Steve Burdon is returning to British Telecom after much industry speculation. The announcement was made by Clear chairman John Ede and was to be effective immediately. Burdon was originally appointed as BT's man in the field when the BT-MCI deal looked to be all but signed. Things did not go that way, with WorldCom making a last-minute bid - later accepted - for MCI. As part of the deal BTs shares in MCI were bought by MCI for $US7 billion. BT and MCI each had a 24.9% share in Clear up until the deal.
