Maxtor Corp. has introduced the DiamondMax 2880, a 3.5-inch EIDE/UltraDMA hard drive with as much as 11.5GB of capacity and an average seek time of 9.0 milliseconds.
The drive will begin shipping in volume in March. Maxtor addresses the 8.4GB BIOS and operating system limitation with MaxBlast installation software. Version 9.06 makes it possible for most computers to work with the 11.5GB DiamondMax 2880. Estimated retail price for the 11.5GB drive is US$479. Maxtor's retail-packaged drives contain hard drive interface cables, illustrated installation guide, and MaxBlast installation software.
