Local Windows developer Prestcom Computer Systems is breaking into Australia, Singapore and the UK with a range of software aimed at markets as diverse as panel beaters and funeral directors.
Prestcom, which has developed and sold products in New Zealand for 14 years, caters to 22 different vertical markets and has 250 customers nationwide.
John Wilkinson, director of development, says Prestcom’s specialised approach is the main reason the company has broken into the overseas markets. “We’re starting to find that people are now a lot more specific in what they want to buy. Rather than going to generalised accounting systems and making them fit into their business they want something that is already suited to their specific needs. For example, for panel beaters we cover quoting, job control, staff analysis, invoicing, after sales follow-up, and then go through to stock and accounting functions.
“Another market, funeral directors, needs something to deal with all the documentation associated with death. They also have difficulties with invoicing as most of them have extended payments. Our debtor system for them is quite different and goes up to 12 months.” Other markets Prestcom develops for include mechanical workshops, motor vehicle dealers and bicycle shops.
Apart from the recent appointment of Christchurch-based Computer A&D as a distributor, Prestcom has set up an office in Woolongong, Australia and has just signed on Officeauto.com as a distributor in Singapore, and Kent-based Triumph Developments in the UK. It is also in negotiation with two US distributors.
