The New Zealand Software Association has joined forces with the electronics industry to form New Zealand Inc — a working group to formulate policy for industry development.

NZSA spokesman Phil Norman says the group has met several times during the past four months to discuss the issues of education, industry profile and funding.

“With education we’re looking at how we attract able, young people into this industry because the number isn’t as high as it could or should be.

“There is a marketing consideration where we have to develop a better awareness within New Zealand and also abroad about the capabilities of the high technology sector here,” he says.

“Also, there needs to be work done to develop an equity funding base for entrepreneurs developing technology within New Zealand.

“There’s a real will on the part of those involved to make things happen in these areas.”

New Zealand Inc is made up of about 10 members of the NZSA and the electronics industry group Expanz. Tradenz chief executive Fran Wilde has also agreed to participate.
