Import Quark buyers in for nasty suprise, says distributor

People who buy US-sourced copies of Quark Xpress and use them in New Zealand will find they have breached the licence conditions and have no access to support or upgrades, warns the local distributor. The US price is around $1500, as against anywhere from $2400 to $3000 locally, leading some observers to suggest that local distributor QBus may suffer under new parallel importing rules.

But Martinho da Gloria, Quark product manager for QBus, says dealers have been importing US versions of the page layout program for some time, "and people only discover the situation when they call us and want to upgrade. We strongly recommend all users read their user licence."
