Intel has invested an undisclosed sum in Compare.Net, an Internet shopping information resource, and will provide technical assistance to enable Compare.Net to offer multimedia features, such as audio, video, and 3-D graphics.
"One of the keys to doing business on the Internet is providing an environment that lets customers make better-informed decisions in an appealing environment," said Sally Fundakowski, director of business developer relations at Intel. "Using technologies like 3-D to better display products and information can improve that customer environment, enhancing the experience of using the resources available on Internet services such as Compare.Net."
Compare.Net intends to use Intel's investment to introduce new multimedia features consumers can use as they research and compare consumer products. The target date for the enhancements is December's shopping season, according to a company statement.
Compare.Net's database covers more than 80 product categories, including electronics, home office equipment, home appliances, automobiles, motorcycles, sporting goods, software, and computer peripherals.
Compare.Net has previously received funding from Media Technology Ventures and GE Capital's Equity Capital Group.
