Intel includes digital certificates in CDSA

Intel and ValiCert have announced that ValiCert's Certificate Validation Module for Common Data Security Architecture (CDSA) will be incorporated into Intel's next version of the CDSA Reference Implementation that the company makes available to its CDSA licensees. Intel and ValiCert have announced that ValiCert's Certificate Validation Module for Common Data Security Architecture (CDSA) will be incorporated into Intel's next version of the CDSA Reference Implementation that the company makes available to its CDSA licensees.

The CDSA framework is an open architecture designed to enable vendors and users to build and deploy plug-and-play security systems. The ValiCert module will allow licensees to add digital certificate validation capabilities to their Public Key Infrastructure-based security systems.

The CDSA Reference Implementation is currently in Version 1.2; Version 2.0 of the product is scheduled to ship later this year. The platform is supported by a number of companies including IBM, Intel, Security Dynamics, and RSA Data Security.

Using the reference, developers will be able to write to a common API to provide interoperability among several different security products.

The module provides an important solution for a difficult problem on a platform that has potential for use, according to analysts.

"Outside of the Microsoft platform it's probably the most important overall security architecture," said Ira Machefsky, a senior analyst at the Giga information Group, in Santa Clara, California. "They have some really nice technology for doing certificate revocation, which is a big problem and a hard-to-manage problem."
