Network Associates is to buy CyberMedia, a provider of desktop utility software solutions including First Aid 98, UnInstaller, Oil Change and Guard Dog Deluxe, in a deal worth about $US130m.
CyberMedia products will become part of Network Associates’ McAfee software division. Network Associates was formed last year by the merger of McAfee Associates and Network General and the acquisitions of encryption specialist Pretty Good Privacy and Trusted Information Systems, which manufactures firewall, key recovery management and anti-hacker network-monitoring software.
In March Network Associates acquired helpdesk vendor Magic Solutions and recently unveiled plans to buy rival anti-virus vendor Dr Solomon’s Group and network security and management software specialist Secure Networks.
CyberMedia last week announced second-quarter revenue of $US5.9 million. Its Net loss was $US11.9 million.
