Clear Net has introduced a new service that promises Internet users guaranteed bandwidth and the ability to send “bursty” traffic. Bursty traffic is bandwidth-intensive network traffic that travels in bursts.
The Internet service provider says the service, enhanced dedicated access, is aimed at medium-sized and large companies looking to extract maximum efficiencies from their Internet access, says Clear Internet access business manager, Nicole Sommer-field.
“For these businesses, the Internet has become a mainstream business tool and, in some cases, a significant ongoing cost. There are benefits for these companies in -enhancing their management of their Internet access.”
In addition to offering guaranteed bandwidth and the ability to send bursty traffic, it also provides a reporting tool which lets users monitor their traffic in real time. They can also choose from a wider range of national access options including frame relay, AT and, in Wellington, Citylink.
The offer is the first stage of a Clear Net Grade of Service for business Internet users. Another improvement is expected later this year, giving users the capability to both monitor and prioritise the type of usage.
Improved dedicated access joins the Connect VPN product in what is expected to be a rapidly growing portfolio of Clear Net specialised business services. It is also the first ISP business solution in New Zealand to take advantage of the capabilities of Packeteer’s PacketShaper, a packet--shaping technology supplied by Datacraft.
