Ian Macdonald, New Zealand country manager for Lotus, has been made redundant following restructuring of the company.
Marketing manager Tara Lorigan has also lost her job in a move that will see Lotus New Zealand managed directly from Australia.
Lotus Australia and New Zealand managing director Peter Taylor delivered the news last Monday. He says restructuring was carried out on both sides of the Tasman but wouldn’t say whether there had been redundancies in Australia.
“I’ve been in the job as managing director of Australia-New Zealand for six months, and in that time I’ve been able to look at the operation of the company and how to better go to the market,” he says. “We’ve looked at efficiencies and how reporting lines work and that has resulted in the changes. We’re looking at a more solutions-based model.”
He denies that the move was spurred by poor performance in the Australia-New Zealand region.
The head count for the New Zealand operation now stands at five, although extra sales staff will be hired “in the not too distant future”, says Taylor.
“There will be no ‘defocus’ on New Zealand, we still see it as an important market. We have technical people in both Auckland and Wellington.”
