Xtra to offer voice, fax to email technology

Xtra is to offer both business and personal customers a one-stop messaging service that delivers fax and voice mail messages to e-mail inboxes. According to US reports, Telecom's ISP has licensed the JFAX Communications suite of products - a deal that sees JFAX expand its global network of local access points to 60.

Xtra is to offer both business and personal customers a one-stop messaging service that delivers fax and voice mail messages to e-mail inboxes.

According to US reports, Telecom's ISP has licensed the JFAX Communications suite of products - a deal that sees JFAX expand its global network of local access points to 60. The company markets its product to Internet service providers as a value-added messaging solution for their customers.

Under the JFAX system, subscribers are given a phone number for incoming calls in their local area. JFAX converts incoming faxes and voice messages into graphic and sound files that are downloaded attached to e-mail, using free software from from the company's Web site.

The service can also be used to send outgoing fax and voice mail messages via e-mail. Service, including a local phone number in Auckland, Welling or Christchurch and up to 200 inbound messages per month, is likely to cost around $25 a month.
