CheckPoint tops IDC security stats

CheckPoint Software Technologies is outgunning rivals Cisco Systems, Cyberguard, Axent Technologies, Secure Computing, Sun Microsystems and Network Associates in the fierce enterprise security race, analysts report. According to IDC, CheckPoint was responsible for 61% of the total 12,664 firewall units shipped in Western Europe during 1997.

CheckPoint Software Technologies is outgunning rivals Cisco Systems, Cyberguard, Axent Technologies, Secure Computing, Sun Microsystems and Network Associates in the fierce enterprise security race, analysts report.

According to the International Data (IDC) report "European Firewall Market Study," CheckPoint was responsible for 61% of the total 12,664 firewall units shipped in Western Europe during 1997.

In addition, the IDC report released figures for the 1997 firewall-based VPN (virtual private network) market according to installed base. CheckPoint has emerged in front with a 64% share of the firewall-based VPN units installed in Western Europe by the top seven vendors.

CheckPoint is estimated to own around 70% of the Asia-Pacific VPN market.
