Grant gives time management software vendor export push

Auckland-based Pictdata Productions, in recognition of its potential as an export earner, has received a grant of $400,000 from Technology New Zealand to develop its time management software, Time Disciple.

Pictdata, which has just made its first international sale of Time Disciple, will use the grant to recruit four software developers to further develop the package.

The overseas sale of 125 licences was made to the Australia-based loss recovery service company Relectronic-Remech. Time Disciple will control and manage all of the recovery projects that Relectronic-Remech performs from its bases in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong and New Zealand. These involve the recovery of electronic or mechanical equipment after fire, flood or other contamination.

Pictdata managing director Grant Hugh-son says the main challenge for Relectronic-Remech in deploying Time Disciple is the automation of its service centre data entry. Engineers will record their time against projects using a time sheet designed in conjunction with Relectronic-Remech. "The new time sheet will operate like a time clock and will allow the monitoring of, say, the Malaysian operations in real time from the Singapore regional office," says Hughson. "The application allows all service centre engineers and technicians to record their time on a single workstation."

Relectronic-Remech operates in many countries so remote connection in real time to the database via the Internet is essential to ensure all projects are up to date at head office locations.

The Time Disciple server will operate on Sybase ASE RDBMS using TCP/IP connectivity over the Relectronic-Remech WAN and will be integrated with Relectronic-Remech financials, human resources, payroll and quality systems to reduce administrative overheads and automate all work flows.

Relectronic-Remech's chief financial officer, Campbell Corfe, says Time Disciple will provide the core component of future enterprise systems and will enable the company to manage the key aspect of its business — successful project management.

"We were impressed by the manner in which Pictdata was able to respond to our enhancement requests and how rapidly we will be able to deploy Time Disciple throughout our locations in Asia, Australia and New Zealand."

Time Disciple is used in more than 30 sites in New Zealand including Auckland Health, Clearview Communications, Country-wide Bank, Fletcher Challenge Energy, New Zealand Qualifications Authority, Simpl Group, Tacit Group, Wai-takere City Council, Statistics New Zealand and WEL Technology.
