An announcement is expected today on the launch of Microsoft's new local MSN Web portal, which will be managed by the Microsoft-Packer joint venture NineMSN. The portal was originally due to launch late last month as part of a global strategy based around the MSN brand, but has been delayed for unknown reasons. Meanwhile, domain names registered by TVNZ suggest partnerships with both NineMSN and Telecom Xtra are being considered.

An announcement is expected today on the launch of Microsoft's new local MSN Web portal.

The portal was originally due to launch late last month as part of a global strategy based around the MSN brand, but has been delayed for unknown reasons.

The portal project sees the established Microsoft-Packer joint venture NineMSN expand into this country, representing Microsoft New Zealand in the Internet business.

TVNZ is one of the local content providers to be present on the portal at its launch, and TVNZ's registration of MSN-related domain names has led to speculation on a closer relationship between the broadcaster and Nine MSN, but both parties insist they are only exploring options.

MSN and Microsoft-related related domains registered by TVNZ are:

1msn.co.nz

2msn.co.nz

2webtv.co.nz

onemsn.co.nz

onewebtv.co.nz

twomsn.co.nz

twowebtv.co.nz

On the other hand, the following names suggest a partnership with Telecom Xtra is also being considered:

oneextra.co.nz

onextra.co.nz
