Electronic-commerce heavyweights Amazon.com and Dell Computer are joining forces offering linked Web sites and customised content for their customers.
As of today, the companies now have links at the "checkout" areas of their respective Web sites leading to new co-branded Internet sites, officials from both companies said at a press conference. This is the first time Dell has linked to a another company from the Dell Web site and also is the first time Amazon.com has linked to a computer vendor.
"We believe we're in a highly complementary set of businesses," said Paul Bell, senior vice president of Dell's Home and Small Business Group, who added that the deal is the first in what is expected will be an ongoing relationship.
The companies will not be selling each other's products and officials refused to say if that might be an aspect of the relationship in the future. They also refused to provide any information regarding terms of the deal.
