Telstra announces $A1.8 billion profit

Telstra has announced record profit earnings after tax and minorities of $A1.8 billion (US$1.1 billion) for the six months ended December 31, 1998. Strong growth in mobile, Internet and data products contributed to the results, which were 16.8% above 1997 results for the same period. Total revenues for the period increased by 6.2% to $9.24 billion.

Strong growth in mobile, Internet and data products contributed to the results, which were 16.8%above 1997 results for the same period.

Total revenues for the period increased by 6.2% to $9.24 billion, officials announced.

Traditional telephony products remained flat for the telco giant, with local calls up by 5.5% to $1.38 billion and a reduction in revenues from long-distance products. Officials said STD calls were down by less than 2%and international calls were down by 14.9%.
