What seems set to be a significant local e-commerce venture will officially launch with an advertising campaign tomorrow.
NetworksDirect bills itself as New Zealand's first "completely online source of network and computer products". And it's big – claiming 10,000 product lines, most of which appear to be priced sharply below recommended retail.
The site sells a wide range of desktop and notebook PCs from Compaq, Hewlett-Packard and IBM, and Toshiba notebooks, along with software, components and peripherals from a variety of vendors, including Intel and Microsoft. NetworksDirect also offers to arrange volume licensing for customers.
The site is the brainchild of Auckland businessman Neil Taylor, who comes from an IT reselling background. It is hosted by Voyager and appears to be the first out of the gates of a number of projects being developed on the ISP's chosen Microsoft e-commerce platform, along with ASB Bank's Access Online secure credit card payment scheme.
Although the site does not officially launch tomorrow it appears to already be fully active online at http://www.networksdirect.co.nz.
