Microsoft is taking online orders for a 45-day trial version of its upcoming Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Web site creation and management tool.
Customers can order the $6.95 trial version, which includes all of the program's new features, from Microsoft's Web site. Microsoft will ship the software on a CD-ROM and include a second disc that contains images for use in Web design, a 30-day trial version of Microsoft PhotoDraw, and a tutorial and exercises. (Like FrontPage, the PhotoDraw graphics program is designed for use with the Office 2000 product line.)
FrontPage 2000 is scheduled to ship in early June. Pricing is $149 for new users and $59.95 for upgrades from earlier editions. The application is designed to integrate with Microsoft Office 2000 and can share the application menus and toolbars.
The revamped FrontPage has a simpler interface and more options to import and save files. It includes new page management tools and provides more control over text styles, colors, and graphics. Microsoft also added more template-like "themes," cleaner placement controls, and support for cross-platform Dynamic HTML.
