Engineering (RAGE) have launched services on their Web sites listing foods which are claimed to free of genetic engineering.

The list, which aims to link to food manufacturers' Web sites, was jointly developed over the past five months by the Green Party, RAGE and staff at St Martins New World supermarket in Christchurch.

Jeanette Fitzsimons, the Green Party's co-leader, is confident that though the list relies on the honesty of the food producers, it is the most accurate and comprehensive list of genetic engineering free food in New Zealand. The products listed have been supplied with written confirmation details from food companys.

"I would rather see an official food labelling regime but because the government has sidelined such a regime, the site is the best alternative source for non-GE food."

The Web pages can be found at www.rage.org.nz or www.greens.org.nz.
