Australia's complex new GST law is providing opportunities for a New Zealand bookkeeping software supplier.

Roger Hadfield, managing director of Easy Data Processing, signed an agreement with the Fallon Group, indirect tax consultants, who will sell Easy Data bookkeeping products (renamed EasyBooks for the Australian market) as part of its GST solution.

New Zealand software companies have a head start on their Australian counterparts, says Hadfield, because their systems have been designed with GST in mind. They're also simple to use and "leave accountancy to the accountants," he says. "While some of the products for small businesses attempt to get you doing all your own accountancy work, we've recognised that most business people don't want to be accountants -- they want to run their business! So we offer a simple bookkeeping package with an e-data connection to their accountant."

Easy Data has 5000 clients in New Zealand. The Fallon Group will be its sole Australian distributor but Hadfield hopes eventually to take the product to the UK, Canada and Europe.
