National Bank to beat BNZ online

National Bank is rolling out its online banking facility in September - or, rather, rebranding the Countrywide Bank pilot that has been running since the end of 1997.

National Bank is rolling out its online banking facility in September.

'We're not making a big splash, we're just re-branding the existing facility," says media spokeswoman Cynthia Brophy, referring to the Countrywide Bank pilot that has been running since the end of 1997. National Bank's parent company, Lloyds TSB, bought Countrywide Bank last year and has been integrating the two systems since then.

National will join ASB Bank and its subsidiary BankDirect as well as the BNZ in the online banking market. The BNZ hopes to launch its online presence in October, while ASB Bank has been in the market the longest with its FastNet facility and then with the launch of BankDirect as New Zealand's first entirely virtual bank in January 1997.
