Massey moves on

If you're still one of those people who think of sheep jokes and men in plaid shirts when Massey University is mentioned, then think again.

If you’re still one of those people who think of sheep jokes and men in plaid shirts when Massey University is mentioned, then think again. Massey now has three campuses — Palmerston North, Auckland and Wellington — and more than 30,000 students (including distance learners) nationwide. Recently its Web site underwent a facelift and now there is an eye-catching, functional front page to greet you. A globe covered in pictures of people hangs amongst the stars, providing hyperlinks to Massey’s various colleges. Links also let you find out more about studying, student life and staff at Massey. The site’s research section is where the beauty of the Web comes to the fore — fast searches of databases. You can look at specific research by topic or use the Expertise Directory to search for an expert by keyword. The site also has a news section, which doesn’t just contain information on what’s happening at Massey, but also Palmerston North and Wellington cities. On the day I visited the site they included releases on East Timor quoting Massey’s East Timor specialist and the latest on real estate prices from Massey’s Real Estate Analysis Unit. Overall, this site knows who its market is and provides a huge volume of data for those users. Because navigation around the site is easy users should have no problem finding the information they want. — By Kirstin Mills
