Auckland developer offers print portal

Auckland-based developer Equote has set up a Web site, printquote.co.nz, where customers can get instant quotes, order and track print work through printers around the country.

Instant online quotes are now available from printers around the country.

Auckland-based developer Equote has set up a Web site, printquote.co.nz, where customers can get quotes, order and track print work through a variety of printers.

Principal Robert Barnes says Equote is slowly increasing its membership and would eventually like to have all New Zealand printers online to give a full service. Having worked alongside several printers, he is confident the site will be easy and effective to use.

While Equote has a database of 800 printers in New Zealand, Barnes says this covers screenprinters and multiple addresses for companies. There are, however, "hundreds of printers out there who could be interested in the quote service".

It saves customers phoning around every printer in their area, he says, and will give an instant quote once each printer has their details on file.

"Obviously we'll need to go through stages as we grow — the system we need to support 10 printers is different to 50 or 100. But we'll have time to develop."

IDG general manager, media services Martin Bell says he has looked at the site and would use it, "but it still needs to reach critical mass and have enough printers on there".

Printers who want to join pay a "pretty low" membership fee, says Barnes, plus a percentage of any business bought through the site. He is unwilling to give more precise details until the site is properly established.
