Xtra's customer base grew more than 60% to 228,300 in the year to September 30 - and they're spending longer online, according to figures released yesterday by Telecom.
Telecom yesterday reported after-tax earnings of $209 million for the three months to September 30, and released figures showing year-on-year growth in various parts of its business.
As well as a 61.2% increase in Xtra customer numbers, Telecom reported that those customers spending an average of 17.6 hours online in the month of September, an increase of 79.6% over that in September 1998.
CEO Theresa Gattung said the main boosters to Telecom's performance in the quarter were very strong growth in New Zealand's mobile phone market and increasing growth in data revenues.
