Interesting Internet events continue apace for the election campaign. The latest to debut is a site that lists public sector salaries.
The site, at www.wages.co.nz, carries a brief message saying it aims to make accessible "the rewards paid to those in your employment".
It lists pay rates of top staff at public entitities, from Treasury and the Reserve Bank to NZ On Air and the Hillary Commission. Parliamentary salaries are also listed.
The information appears to have been gathered either from public service or by directly contacting the organisations requesting disclosure of their salary scales. Most agencies have followed the form established a couple of years ago and cited the number of staff in each $10,000 salary band over $100,000 per year.
Although the project has clearly been timed to coincide with the election campaign, there is no obvious hint as to the author's political persuasion. The wages.co.nz domain was registered this week to M. Jones of Whangarei.
