The highly-touted online retail site FlyingPig has received an "award" it might rather have done without.
The locally-based Internet Marketing Consultants, which has previously published reviews of business and e-commerce sites operated by PaperPlus, Morgan and Banks and the Warehouse, has given FlyingPig its Roach Award - along with a scathing assessment of the site's useability.
Declaring Flying Pig to have "the look of Website prematurely released to the market in the hope of catching the Christmas e-commerce rush" the reviewer, going under the alias of The Roachster, has given the site but one star out of a possible five star rating.
The review praises the packaging and personalisation of a book ordered via FlyingPig, but details difficulties in searching for authors and titles, cites problems with items "disappearing" from FlyingPig's online shopping cart and notes that the site's pricing seems much higher than that available from other sources.
The full review is online at http://www.thebest.co.nz . Provision has been made for a right of reply from FlyingPig, but as yet, none has been forthcoming.
