Fujitsu New Zealand is pulling back key management responsibilities to Australia with managing director Bill Beale being replaced by a country manager.

Beale, who has been head of Fujitsu for four-and-a-half years, resigns at the end of next week but will stay on to help the company reorganise.

KS Tan, the general manager of Southmark Solutions Australia, which is a subsidiary of Fujitsu Australia, will manage Fujitsu New Zealand until a new manager is appointed.

The responsibility of the managers of finance and human resources divisions of the company is also being reduced and the current local managers were offered positions with Fujitsu Australia. One has accepted and the other is leaving the company.

Asked whether the moves have anything to do with the company's local financial performance, marketing manager Bill Dashfield says “We are always looking at ways to cut costs and increase efficiencies so that has something to do with it."

Fujitsu will not disclose its latest financial results until the end of the financial year on 31 March 2001.
