Former database specialist Informix has finalised its split into two with the decision on a new name for the e-business applications side of its company: Ascential Software.
The split will allow the other part of Informix to concentrate on development and sales of its flagship database management system, while Ascential takes on those tasks for the many applications that have spun off from it.
The tasks involved in developing and marketing both have become too complex for a single company and the two market are increasingly divergent, says James Rae, managing director of Ascential in Australia and New Zealand. Rae was previously managing director of Informix New Zealand.
Ascential will place the emphasis on “managing the information assets” residing in an organisation’s database and data warehouses, says Rae.
The company’s offerings include: DataStage XE, a set of components to manage the collection, validation, organisation and administration of information assets of any type; Media360, an end-to-end media asset management solution; Axielle Portal, a corporate portal that organises and delivers relevant business information to users; and i.Decide, a series of integrated, component-based analytic solutions that address specific, customer-centric business problems.
