Continuing its pursuit of the application service provider (ASP) market, Oracle has launched its online software services brand, 0racle.com, at Oracle AppsWorld in New Orleans.
But rather than offering online applications for hire on their own, Oracle is fleshing out its ASP offering through Oracle.com, a free portal aimed at business people.
The aim is to lure customers with information, including major financial and business papers, trade papers and technology publications, as well as information on Oracle products. Users can customise the portal and use Oracle.com to generate their own business portal. The site also offers access single sign-on to multiple online applications by Oracle and by third-party developers such as NetLedger.
According to chief marketing officer Mark Jarvis, last year 0.1% of Oracle customers were using Oracle applications online. Today this figure has increased to 11%.
