ANZ says its troubled ECard is not set for New Zealand.
The bank, Telstra and ERG launched the $100 million back-office processing venture last August to boost the take-up of smartcards in Australia.
But last week the Australian Financial Review reported a raft of troubles, including low take-up, delays in deliveries of the chip-enabled cards and problems in using it. One university branded it a "pretty expensive photocopy card."
ANZ New Zealand has not heard of the card, referring calls to ANZ headquarters in Melbourne.
There, a spokesman rejected some claims in the Australian Financial Review story, but says the card is not available in New Zealand and there are "no plans at this stage" to launch it here.
