Sun Microsystems agent Solnet is supplying a Sun Netra T1 server, SunRay thin-client devices, software, implementation expertise and training to Waimea College in Nelson as part of its "School of Excellence" programme.

The school will pay about a third of equipment costs and display company banners as part of the sponsorship.

Forty SunRays are to be installed at the college and at Henley Primary and Waimea Intermediate in a pilot, enabling campus-wide access to applications and the network. Sun says the thin client service will be simpler than existing PC-based operations and boost IT education at the school.
