Auckland-based dental software firm Software of Excellence International has taken its first big bite out of the southeast Asian dental market.
SOE is supplying its EXACT software and services to the National University of Singapore in a $700,000 deal. Some 120 workstations will be covered, which the company says is a major deal prior to its South-East Asian plans, which involve opening a Singapore office in the next month or so.'
The Singapore deal follows the UK-based Dencare dental chain signing up for $200,000 of software over the coming year. Health shop chain Boots is the company's other main UK customer. It is developing 200 dental health care providers by the end of 2002. This $300,000 deal has already seen software provided to 30 dentists.
The New Zealand defence force signed up for $100,000 of software before Christmas and other recent customers include dental schools in Otago, Adelaide, Edingburgh and Minnesota in the US.
In December, Software of Excellence International raised $5 million in a share offering to buy the software practice of its main UK competitor Hentry Schien Technologies, plus develop new products, buy more companies and explore hosting ASP services.
Chief executive Paul Weatherly says since the "oversubscribed" share offering, representing 24% of the company, its share price had "fallen slightly" but it had "fared well considering the hammering many sectors have had."
Software of Excellence International was formed by brothers Paul and Brian Weatherly in 1992.
