Whangarei designer focuses on NZ clip art

Tired of using US-created clip art, Whangarei graphic designer John Steedman started making his own.

“It was the first New Zealand clip art product and it sold well,” he says, of the venture he began several years ago.

Called New Zealand Clip Art, it involved Steedman drawing his own illustrations.

Version one came out on floppy disk about eight years ago after three years' effort. When CD burners appeared, version 2 was published in the new format; version three will be launched within the next few weeks featuring 800 illustrations.

“They are all hand-drawn in felt-pen and rebuilt on the screen in CorelDraw,” he says.

And they are "ideal" for Microsoft and Mac and PC products.

While Steedman says the product has been a success, the owner-operator of Jonzone Creation still does other graphic design work for a Whangarei printing firm.
