Novell New Zealand is shedding its telephone support staff and all telephone support will be done from the United States.
New Zealand general manager Peter Revell says two people are affected but the company may be able to re-deploy them in another area, as the change won’t take place for the next three to four months. This will leave the local operation with a head count of 11.
Revell says the move is in response to a drop in the volume of calls to support centres through Asia-Pacific and isn't related to a directive from the parent company to lay off 5% of employees.
Utah-based Novell made the announcement last week after posting a second quarter loss of $US151 in the period to the end of April.
