Landonline programme closes branch offices

Cabinet decided on Tuesday to let Land Information New Zealand’s (Linz’s) Landonline programme proceed on its intended course of closing down provincial Linz offices and storing paper records in fewer regional centres and archives.

The planned removal of paper records sparked protests from local authorities and users, concerned that records, particularly those of historical interest, would be less accessible to locals.

"Retaining some records, but not all, in branch offices would have significant ongoing costs and wouldn't be justified by the low use patterns,” says land information minister Matt Robson.

“The Landonline project will ensure there is improved access for all New Zealanders to all land records from anywhere,” says Robson.
