Australian internet job slump continues

Job vacancies on the internet in Australia dropped another 4.5% last month according to the Olivier Internet Job Index for June.

Job vacancies on the internet in Australia dropped another 4.5% last month according to the Olivier Internet Job Index for June.

IT and telecommunications jobs were especially hard hit dropping 9.7% continuing a downward trend that has been seen during 2001.

Robert Olivier, head of the group, says the slump is due to IT job cuts in the US and the recent collapse of local carrier One.Tel.

"There is now less than a quarter of the jobs advertised in this sector than for the same time last year," he says.
