Anti-virus specialist Symantec is warning users and network administrators to make sure their anti-virus protection is up-to-date before Friday, July 13 arrives - as Black Fridays are a particular favourite of virus creators.

"We are not certain that there will be a virus outbreak on Friday the 13th of July this year, however, we are encouraging administrators and computer users to be aware of the possible threats and to be prepared," says country manager Richard Batchelar.

He says there are a number of known viruses that trigger on Friday 13, and many more that kick off on the 13th of any month.

The best defence against viruses that have been identified already is to keep virus protection up-to-date, says Batchelar.
