The 15,000-strong New Zealand Defence Force says it has identified its first information chief, but isn’t prepared to yet make the person’s name public.

A spokesperson says the force has made an appointment but was still in contract negotiations with the person as Computerworld went to press.

The new post aims to give the force “greater governance over its increasingly complex and rapidly advancing information environment”.

The NZDF told Computerworld in March that the successful candidate will earn a “market-tested” six-figure salary and will be responsible for a shake-up of the department’s information services, including outsourcing various departments.
