Search engine company AltaVista has appointed 24/7 Media as its New Zealand representative, following the closure of former agent WebMasters.
WebMasters was the online sales arm of advertising company Brave New World.
AltaVista Australia and New Zealand managing director Mel Bohse says 24/7 Media is the company's exclusive sales representative in Australia and this deal will herald its expansion into the New Zealand market.
"It'll probably look to pick up other clients in New Zealand as well."
She calls it "a great boost" to the New Zealand internet advertising market as 24/7 Media has abundant experience in the area.
In May 24/7 Media sold its Sabela Media arm to archrival Doubleclick for an undisclosed sum. 24/7 Media had bought Sabela Media, in part for its ad-serving technology, in January 2000 for about $A75 million. In May 24/7 Media also sold its email delivery unit, Exactis, for about $A13.5 million.
