Image-conscious ad company Publicis Group is entrusting creation of its local online presence to three third-year computing degree students at Auckland's Unitec.

The students -- Brendan Shivnan, Chris Edwardes and Jamie Pankhurst – are doing the job as part of their study. They call themselves Cubem3dia.

“Publicis wanted a fresh approach,” says Edwardes. The Paris-based company, which incorporates New Zealand subsidiaries Drum, Mojo Partners and Optimedia, handed the trio the job after being impressed by a CD-ROM they created for it.

Publicis IT manager Lisa Coleman says the students will create an extranet that will enable clients to see work in progress. They’ll also create the company’s public web presence, which Coleman has no qualms about relying on them to do.

“They’ve shown us the stuff they’ve done; they’re very talented.”

Edwardes says the site, which they have until November to deliver, will employ Flash, active server pages, Javascript and HTML.
