Website aids RMA 'best practice'

Planners can gain help from a new Environment Ministry website, which aims to bring more consistent district plans across New Zealand.

The website, was developed between the ministry, New Zealand Planning Institute, Local Government New Zealand, the Resource Management Law Association and the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors. It includes guidance on the planning process, nationwide contact points, a database of publications and a discussion forum.

Minister Marian Hobbs said in a statement that the website aims to level the playing field for planners, making available the same advice to a West Coast planner as to a city council official, and help spread the notion of best practice between planners.

"In light of recent criticism about Resource Management Act implementation, it's good to see a project that provides the basis for a continuing improvement in the way planning is done under the RMA," Hobbs says.
