TAB pays out for computer error

The TAB is blaming the introduction of its new IT system for having to pay out extra on an Australian horse race.

Race six from Warwick Farm in Sydney was run on Sunday evening, however the Jetbet system didn't "close" the race before it was run, meaning winners weren't paid the correct amount and some quick-witted gamblers placed bets on a race that had already been run.

Spokesman Joe Locke says the problem occurred during the migration from Jetbet to Jetbet II.

"When people went up to cash in legitimate winning tickets the computer was saying the race was still open. So, instead of paying out it was refunding the ticket."

Racegoers who feel they are still owed money for the race should contact the TAB in writing at Freepost 3750, TAB PO Box 38899, Wellington Mail Centre.
