IT sector groups are looking to form an industry “alliance” to further their interests, says Information Technology Association (ITANZ) chief executive Jim O’Neill.
O’Neill says his and other industry bodies, including telecomms user group TUANZ, have informally discussed the idea over the past six months, and it has won the backing of IT Minister Paul Swain.
ITANZ, TUANZ, the Computer Society, InternetNZ and other groups are formally due to meet within a month or so, aiming to
have the umbrella group operational next year.
O’Neill says such a group would better represent the industry. ITANZ would “facilitate” the new body. O’Neill discussed the ITANZ-led initiative with Swain at a meeting last week. “He thought it was a great idea,” O’Neill says.
