Compaq issues dual recall notices for notebooks

Compaq has issued a worldwide recall of 1.4 million AC adapters and power cords from a range of notebooks because of a potential fire risk.

Compaq has issued a worldwide recall of 1.4 million AC adapters and power cords from a range of notebooks because of a potential fire risk.

The affected adapters were sold as separate items or replacement parts for Armada notebooks M300, M700, E500, V300, 100s, 3500, 110, and the E500s and for Prosignia 170 and 190 as well as for the Notebook 100.

Users of these notebooks are asked to check their adapter model series number, located on the label. Three numbers are affected: PP003SD, PP003 and PP2012.

"Compaq urges customers to discontinue use of the recalled AC adapter and to order a replacement adapter immediately. For more information on the recall and replacement programme call Compaq Computer NZ on 0800 174 108, or go to our AC adapter recall website".

Compaq is also recalling 55,000 battery packs used in Armada E500 and V300 notebooks worldwide after a defect was found in one. Users are asked to check the white label on the battery for the following product numbers: TCGK 00001-10500, TCGK 20001-21800, TCGK 40001-83100 and TCHK 40001-44700.Users with one of these Armada notebooks are urged to stop using the notebook immediately and contact Compaq on 0800 449 552. Compaq believes around 300 of these notebooks were sold in New Zealand.
