IBM has finally announced local prices for its long-awaited p690 high-end Unix server the P690, code-named Regatta, which was launched in Sydney and Beijing earlier this month (see IBM sets sail with Regatta).

Pricing starts at $NZ1.4 million (exc GST) for an 8-way 1.1Ghz system with 8GB memory and 72GB of storage. The system begins shipping in volume in December.

But due to the nature of the New Zealand market, analysts IDC expect only a handful of sales a year.
