Umbrella still at hand

ITANZ wants it all, but has to convince other bodies yet

ITANZ is pushing ahead with controversial plans for a new umbrella body covering the information technology industry, however tentatively.

Executive director Jim O'Neill says plans are at a "delicate stage" and it is still very early days.

O'Neill blames confusion between reports of "formal meetings" and "informal meetings" for recent denials by TUANZ and InternetNZ of involvement in the project.

"We think it's a great idea for somebody to take up," he says, adding no further meetings are yet planned on the issue.

O'Neill hopes such a body would be launched next year, covering organisations such as TUANZ, InternetNZ and the Computer Society.
