Provincial lines operator Powerco is looking for an IS manager in New Plymouth to help the expanding utility integrate the IT systems of its acquired businesses.

Title: Information systems manager, Powerco, based in New Plymouth

Function: Strategy, design and implementation of new platforms and information systems for growing utility company

Description: Head a team of five, work with senior management, report to general manager information systems

Provincial lines operator Powerco is looking for an IS manager in New Plymouth to help the expanding utility integrate the IT systems of its acquired businesses.

The electricity and gas distributor operates networks across much of the southern half of the North Island.

Reporting to the general manager group services and heading a team of five, the IS manager will work with senior management in asset management and finance to confirm policies and strategies and oversee the implementation of new platforms and information systems.

Responsibilities will include building an IS infrastructure and processes that will enable these strategies to be implemented. Key systems are PC network-based and include core business applications and communications.

Cook Executive recruitment associate director Rowen Greatbatch says he is looking for someone well-established in information systems management. "The person needs to have a strong understanding of the implementation and development of strategy. They also need to be pretty hands-on in terms of project management skills."

Tertiary qualifications are expected, probably in computer science or engineering.

Greatbatch says the suitable candidate is probably working in IT management, consulting or in a senior project management role. He is unsure what the post might lead to, but says the role will be challenging, with much to do over the next two years.

“There’s lots of implementation and strategy and new platforms. It is not a baby-minding role. Powerco has grown through acquisitions and mergers. There’s lots of different systems that need to be merged, rationalised and standardised."

Greatbatch declines to quote a salary range, but says it will be commensurate with experience.

Barry O'Brien of recruiters Enterprise estimates a package of $95,000 to $110,000.

Deadline for applications, which can be emailed to recruit@cookex.co.nz, is November 16.
